Update: (05/07/2012) I tried to bend the horizon a bit more as suggested by *Amritha Now I won't fix anything anymore, but I still enjoy advice for future artwork
Update: (05/06/2012) I changed several things on the water as *hecatehell suggested and like I had planed. I also added more "water white dots" as *Pample suggested, specialy falling from the body. I also increased a bit the lines of the phoenix, not much, I couldn't do many things about this character due to problems with my layers x) Thanks again everyone for your help!

Oh... my... gosh... I can't believe I did it and spent more than 9 hours on it today... Add 15 other hours yesterday and the day before... I'm insane 0_o
It's been a long time since I wanted to draw something like this, but I never had the courage or motivation to try it seriously... But reading the Rain Wild Chronicles from Robin Hobb, and then watching *Grypwolf's LiveStream last week-end definitly put me in the mood for this...
So here it is! After 25 hours of hard work lol.
First time ever that I do everything with the tablet on Photoshop, without sketching on paper first. First sea serpent/ water dragon/ leviathan ever. First time ever I ink with a 3 px hard round brush. First dragon-like creature I draw after 4 years.
I don't think I'll do anything else of this kind before a long time... Though it was very fun, it was also very difficult for me x) Unless someone is willing to pay 250$ for something like this (only kiding, I'll never take commission for that price 0_o)
Everything, even the stupid useless uninspired non original tittle, (C)
I am late, I know. So to forgive me I to do a critique because this drawing is just awesome. To me it is one of your best drawing!
Visision – Does the artwork present or reflect a point of view, theme or idea? Yes of course, this artwork represent the water vs the fire! The water dragon fighting the fire phoenix!
Originality – Is the artwork fresh or new in its style, execution or approach? Is it something you haven’t seen before in its particular genre? Does it surprise you? Yes this artwork is fresh and original for you. Because usually you draw wolf. And to see a dragon and a phoenix from you it is original. You shall draw more different things, because it is a success for you! And next you changed your technique a little! Especially about the sky. I love it!
Technique – Was the artwork skillfully created? Does the artist exhibit advanced knowledge of the medium and/or bring special focus to the craft of the medium used. The shading is amazing! And we can see that you spent a lot of time to do it! The details of animals are great too!
Impact – Does the artwork resonate with you or evoke strong emotions? Does it make you think? Does it blow your mind? For me this picture evoke me the power!
Final Thoughts I am really impressed by this picture! Really! There so many details! I am fall in love of the dragon! His head is wonderful and all these scales are so nice! And his pose: nice, elegant and graceful! Oh really I love him!
The phoenix is really nice too. But don't be annoyed that I prefer the dragon. It is just because I prefer reptile than bird. His pose is really great too! The pose of wings are perfect and I love his tail!
The only critique that I can do is the water. The see is wonderful, just there are not enough drops. I know that you added them. But add more! It is necessary that we feel wet when we see this picture. I want to be splashed by this drawing! We would be more in the action and the picture would be more awesome. In spite of it is already it!
To conclude, congratulation for this drawing! You show us a big improvement in this drawing! And I wish to see more drawing like this one!
I think the thing which first caught my eye when I looked at this was the composition and the flow of color over the whole piece. The vibrant red of the phoenix turns gradually into the cool, conflicting (in a good way) blue of the leviathan, but the blue is still warm enough to connect the piece together. Indeed, the only clashing going on seems to be between the two beasts - a wonderful aspect of the piece itself.
The composition is very good. The negative space around the creatures is pleasing to the eye and the S-curve of the serpent's body leads the eye up to the phoenix, where the action and energy in its pose keeps our interest.
The level of detail in the linework is nice, not too heavy or light, and compliments the rest of the piece nicely. You blended the lineless background and the outlined creatures beautifully and they compliment one another well.
The only thing I did notice was something small, something I suspect I noticed only because I was looking so hard at your piece as I was critiquing: the horizon line between the water and sky is a little harsh (just beneath the curve of the serpent's body - it's the only place it feels so hard). But really something so small is nothing next to the rest of the picture.
Over all, it is a powerful piece with a lot of energy and interest. Great job!
